After working with impressive charity leaders, accomplished academics, and committed volunteers in both schools and political organisations, I realised that many people have a fear of fundraising – a hesitation to make the ask.
I am an American fundraiser who spent most of my working life in the UK, beginning my career at the University of Bristol. After finishing my master’s degree in Sociology, I joined Bristol’s Campaigns and Alumni Relations Office at the inception of the institution’s successful £100 million Centenary Campaign, recruiting multiple alumni into feasibility studies, donor circles and an Alumnus onto the Campaign Board by securing a six figure gift.
As a CASE trained Major Gifts Manager, I enjoyed managing a diverse portfolio of alumni donors, some of whom had not heard from the University in a meaningful way since graduation. I particularly relished the opportunity to liaise with incredibly talented, though sometimes skeptical, academic staff to identify funding priorities and demonstrate to them the benefit of philanthropy as a valuable resource to the University experience. Later in my career, I served as Fundraising Director for Deki, a founder-led International Development Charity that pioneered an online platform to crowdfund microloans to provide life changing support to entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa.
With my work through Aurore Fundraising Consultancy, I aim to support charities and non-profits in their crucial missions to change the world in meaningful ways. I bring simplicity and focus to complicated income development projects and work collaboratively with development leadership to confidently grow transformative philanthropic income. I take the fear out of fundraising.
I am inspired by how groups of people successfully work together towards a shared goal. This passion led me to study Sociology as a Masters student and it later steered me towards a career in fundraising. Developing long term relationships with donors and guiding them through the process of giving has been the greatest privilege of my working life.
This curiosity continues to drive me in my fundraising consultancy practice. By demonstrating relevance and a connection to shared values and personal visions of the future, non profit leaders are providing donors the opportunity to change the world in a way that is meaningful to them.
What could be better?
